Forgive me sometimes I can get a little carried away. Lol
Ok, I’m back. Turn to John 8 that is in the New Testament. Just in case you are anything like I was, clueless. That is to reading the bible. Read verses 1-10. Then pause for a second, visualize the scene.
Here the scribes and Pharisees brought in a woman taken (caught) in adultery.
Pharisees: a separatist, i.e. exclusively religious (Holy Spirit definition: someone who spent lots of time memorizing the laws. A person that could regurgitate the biblical laws at the drop of a dime, who more than likely kept himself separated from the world so he could keep abreast of nothing laws)
Scribe: scribe or secretary;-scribe, town-clerk (Holy Spirit definition: Someone who went throughout the town with paper and pencil in hand scribbling down everything they saw. These notes were used later as the official records, recorded on each individual. They would document vital information such as names, dates, time, and place of the event that occurred.)
When the Pharisees caught this woman in the midst of committing adultery, the scribes immediately began to record the event. Back in biblical times you needed more than one witness to testify against you and the Pharisees knew this. So, they were equipped to handle the situation. Plus with all the amazing things that JESUS had done. They were in need of something to hold against him. Bringing her before Jesus with an eye witness (the Pharisees took their noses out of a book, only to find a judgment against someone else) was all they needed. Jesus’ in their mind would have no other choice but to stone her according to Mosaic Law (the Laws GOD had given to Moses). In reality it was never about her. They wanted to see what this Jesus would do. Would he uphold the laws of Moses or would he abolish them. In their eyes if he were the true son of GOD he would uphold them and stone her. Immediately, sentencing her to death, because for the sin of adultery.
Side note: Jesus came to fulfill the Law not abolish it.
Jesus being who he is, patient with humanity’s frailness stood there and listened. Then he did something that was nothing short of amazing.
Did you see it?
He stooped down and with his finger and started to write something in the ground.
What? What are you doing Jesus?
Okay, that part was me questioning him.
Holy Spirit whispered to me keep reading.
So I did.
The Pharisees and scribes were just as confused as I was. So they continued asking him. As if he didn’t hear them the first time.
His response (mind boggling) He without sin, cast the first stone.
What? (Me, again)
See Jesus knew their sins as well. Just as they had a written account of the deeds she had done and had an eye witness. Jesus is in direct communication with the Father who is all the worlds’ eye witness and has unlimited access public records. (According to Proverbs 15:3) He knew all that was ever written against the accusers that brought her in. So in order for you and I to be willing to bring someone else before the mighty GOD for judgment we must make sure our hands are clean from sin. (That’s another message).
When he spoke these words to them it pierced their hearts. Causing them to reflect on their own lives and determine whether they should be stoned as well for their sins. Suddenly the room became empty. All of her accusers now; a not so distant memory, there she stood alone with Jesus. Let’s look at what he had to say about her lives decision, this time in private.
Where are your accusers have no man condemned thee?
Her: No man Lord,
Jesus said to her, neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
His response, simply go and SIN No More!!!!!
But before you get excited, I need to show you something else.
Did you notice that before he gave her the least of his attention his fingers like that of a child engulfed in drawing in the sand. Why? “Every single child” is aware of the blank slate that they see when they look at the ground. Opening their imagination to the ability they have to create something new. So as his fingers slid in multiple directions. HE erased all of the records that had been written against her. I imagine the first picture of this woman he was presented with, didn’t meet his satisfaction. So he erased that mess, and started a new. Your story has been erased! What will you write on this new slate?
Remember your sins have been forgiven; Jesus doesn’t condemn you and neither do I. His commandment to you and I Go and Sin No More!
Your lives chalk board has been erased. Now, REWRITE your story!!!!
